Funded by a grant from the Marguerite d'Youville Foundation, United North's Youth Empowerment Program is engaging neighborhood youth in various activities designed to develop character, leadership skills, and educational goals.
The Youth Empowerment Program enables neighborhood youth to pursue dreams, maintain a positive attitude, and use community resources. Through weekly sessions the program concentrates on sustainability, academic achievement, character and self-esteem building, accountability and responsibility, career exploration, and community service and volunteerism. Services for youth participants include tutoring, GED preparation, assistance with college applications (FAFSA and grant exploration), and resume building.
At the end of each four-week unit, youth participate in a community service project providing them the opportunity to earn a stipend. To earn a stipend, youth must successfully complete the unit and begin the next unit. Stipends increase with each unit completed.
